The Purpose
The purpose of our Family & Consumer Sciences branch is to give youth the chance to explore everyday skills that help them succeed in both home and community life. While school may not always cover topics like budgeting, cooking, or clothing care, this category offers a space to learn practical knowledge that can be used right away. Whether it’s demonstrating how to prepare a healthy meal, planning a household budget, or exploring fashion design, youth can practice hands-on skills that prepare them for the future.
Additionally, this category supports responsibility and independence through lessons on managing money, organizing a home, practicing proper etiquette, and making smart consumer choices. These activities not only prepare young people for adulthood but also encourage creativity, problem-solving, and self-reliance. By participating, youth gain confidence in their ability to take care of themselves and contribute to their families and communities.
