Our first Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) recreation was a delicious success! From 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, students got hands-on experience cooking Red Beans & Rice, with a chicken alternative available for those who don’t eat pork.
Students practiced essential culinary skills, including chopping, measuring, seasoning, cooking, and plating. They learned how to follow a recipe, manage their time in the kitchen, and adapt dishes for different dietary needs. Beyond cooking, the session emphasized safety and hygiene, giving students valuable knowledge they can use at home or in future culinary experiences.
Teamwork and collaboration were at the heart of the activity. Students worked in small groups, communicating clearly, sharing responsibilities, and helping one another troubleshoot challenges as they arose. By the end of the session, participants not only enjoyed a tasty meal but also strengthened their confidence, problem-solving skills, and sense of community within the program.
